How to find a leak before your water bill does

Water rarely announces where it’s escaping. A pinhole inside a wall cavity can run for months, and the first sign is usually a bill that’s climbed without anyone using more water.

The meter test takes two minutes

Turn off every tap and appliance that uses water, then write down the meter reading. Come back an hour later without touching anything. If the number moved, water’s going somewhere it shouldn’t.
